"The Authoress"
This is "The Authoress," another of my collages. It was the inspiration for this Chinese Koan, an old form that requires the following lines:
first line - Make a statement about the subject.
second line - Enhance the statement with a descriptive element.
third line - Make a statement seemingly unrelated to the subject.
fourth line - Tie the third line to the original subject.

"The Authoress"
She often sits in a chair of green velvet,
scrapbooks and mementos scattered at her feet.
Drifting snow doesn't fall here often,
but her windows are whitened by faint reminiscence.

Power in that last turn - mostly generated by "faint". A beautiful scenario!
ReplyDeleteI can visualize this scene so very clearly through your words. You have the Koan form down pat!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a vivid scene! Wonderfully written, Mary Ann!
ReplyDeleteEverything about this post is a feast: your collage immediately sets the nostalgic tone which continues in your koan. I love that third line! Work that line well and these poems turn into little bomb blasts in the skull.
